<Insights> Non-Surgical Eye bag Removal by Dr Han-Jin Kwon - Part 1: Radio Frequency (RF) Cann

In a recent interview with Elle Singapore: Dr Shiau Ee Leng, the chairwoman of the International Aesthetic Medical Advisory Board shared that the non-surgical eye-bag removal via Radio Frequency (RF) Cannula is an effective, safe procedure and a great alternative to the surgical eye-bag removal.

Patients of all age groups are troubled by their eye-bags but not all are prepared to take the risks of surgery. There are alternatives to surgical eye-bag removal such as non-surgical eye-bag removal through the use of fillers and botox (used to temporarily reduce the visibility of protruding fat under the eyes).

Over the past few years, improvements in medical technology has led to a new technique for non-surgical eye bag removal - called the radio frequency (RF) Cannula non-surgical eye bag removal. It is fast gaining popularity as seen from the rising number of patients undergoing this procedure in Singapore and South Korea.

Dr Leng had mentioned that when it comes to the non-surgical eye bag removal procedure, known as Radio Frequency (RF) Cannula, “you can do the procedure multiple times to maintain results, and then opt for lower blepharoplasty when you’re 70.” This is in contrast to the surgical blepharoplasty which Dr Leng mentioned that it is “a once-in-a-lifetime treatment for eye bag removal. If you opt to do this the second time, there might be more complications.”

So how does it work?

After numbing the eye area with local anaesthetic, a Radio Frequency (RF) needle is inserted. The Radio Frequency (RF) is used to break down the fat & ligament in the eye bags. This results is tightening and firming of the skin around the eyes, as well as smoothening wrinkles as new collagen production is stimulated.

Results?

Being non-invasive, it has a low downtime of 4 to 5 days and it only takes 30-45 minutes per procedure which can be repeated as often as once per year unlike surgical eye-bag removal.

Results can be seen in 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment and can last for 2 to 3 years.

Patient Selection

The Non-Surgical Eye bag Removal via Radio Frequency (RF) Cannula is a good and suitable procedure for patients who do not wish/are not prepared to undergo the conventional surgical eye-bag removal procedure, and those who do not have a long time available for recovery.

In conclusion, the Non-Surgical Eye bag Removal via Radio Frequency (RF) Cannula is a new, safe and reliable alternative to other conventional non-surgical eye-bag removal and surgical eye-bag removal.
