<VIDEO> The Most Effective Procedure for Lifting Lower Third of the Face: PDO Thread Lift
Quoted from Fashion Times. More and more women, and men too, are seeking ways to stave off the aging process. Removing upper face wrinkles with Botox is commonplace these days with women as young as in their mid-twenties starting to use it as a preventative measure. Until now, cosmetic practictioners have recommended fillers such as Juverderm to even out nasal-labial folds and marionette lines and plump up the lips.
Recently however a new product called the PDO thread has hit the market. Just a handful of US practioners have been trained in administering this brand new procedure. We caught up with Dr. Gill recently to find out more about the PDO thread lift.
FT: What does PDO stand for?
GP: It stands for Polydioxanone. It's a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone.
FT: What are PDO threads?
GP: They are needles preloaded with an absorbable PDO suture.
FT: How safe are they to inject into the body?
GP: PDO sutures are used to perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery). It's one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body.
FT: Does it dissolve?
GP: Yes, your skin fully absorbs it within four to six months. During that time the skin repairs itself by creating new collagen, naturally.
FT: WE've heard that it is particularly beneficial for a sagging neck and jawline. How does that work?
GP: Yes, the lower third of the face is challenging to treat effectively with injectable fillers and "skin tightening lasers" but now by using the PDO threads we have taken cosmetics to a completely level. Threads can be placed to create more collagen in somewhat of a mesh pattern or to create a lift that some patients see instantly but improvement is gradual and best seen over the next few months. The skin then builds new collagen to secure the lift.
