Non-Surgical Jawline Lifting Part 2: Using Cannula Lifting Threads - Exclusive Video

Facial ageing is a natural and inevitable process. Traditionally, facial and neck rejuvenation, including jawlines, rely on surgical procedures that are elaborate, complicated and require a long recovery time. However, through thread lifting, it is possible for a physician to deliver a tightened and lifted effect in a patient's jawline without having to undergo any surgical process.

Face and Neck Lift: Surgical vs. Non-Surgical

According to a statistical data released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASPS) in 2018, face and neck lift procedures were ranked 6th and 11th respectively in the surgical category of the National Totals for Cosmetic Procedures in 2017; with over 82,000 procedures being performed for face lift and more than 28,000 procedures being performed for neck lift. This translates to a relatively high demand in patients seeking face and neck lift procedures.

While the demand for the two surgical procedures is considerably high, there is also a significant growing number of patients seeking non-surgical alternatives to delay and/or avoid surgical procedures. One of the few alternatives available is non-surgical lifts using sutures, or better known as thread lifts.

The use of PDO threads for lifting originates from Korea; designed and purposed to contour the classical Asian rounded facial feature into a more “westernised” V-shaped face, which is often perceived to be more attractive. Over the years, thread lift has gained prominent popularity all over the world due to the positive results and effects it can deliver.

Benefits of Using Cannula Threads

Conventionally, thread lift procedures are performed by using a needle to pierce through the skin to insert the absorbable suture under the skin for lifting and tightening of the sagging area. However, thread lifting may also be performed using a cannula to deliver similar, if not better, results.

There are 3 key benefits in using cannula lifting threads:

1. Minimizing Tissue Trauma - Using cannula threads can help minimise the risk of tissue trauma as a cannula is much more flexible than a needle and can help the performing physician find a clear path through the tissue with just a single entry.

2. Reduced Risks - As needles are sharp, they are likely to pierce through the skin and tissue, thus potentially damaging underlying blood vessels. On the other hand, the blunt tip of a cannula can safely push through the skin structure without causing damage to the blood vessels, hence largely reducing risks of complications, bleeding, pain and infection.

3. Immediate and More Natural Results - Due to the flexibility and blunt tip of a cannula, using cannula threads can therefore allow the performing physician to easily and accurately insert them to the correct skin layer resulting in significantly smoother and more natural-looking effect in the patient.
